What Mexico, heartbreak, and coaching have in common

Your Connection Guide

This Week in the Connection Codes

Hi Reader,

This summer I spent 10 days in Mexico City with Dr. Glenn and Phyllis. We spoke at conferences, met with business leaders, and worked with one of our certified coaches—Jonathan Hernandez.

Jonathan was also our translator. And let me tell you… WHOA.

I was already managing nerves around presenting in another country, but Jonathan’s brain was doing double the work—listening, translating, delivering—in real time.

I left in awe of his brilliance.

But what I didn’t expect was what came next:

Hearing him share his story on this week’s podcast.

Jonathan is a Certified Connection Codes Coach who's building a business to help people heal. But his story didn’t start there.

He joins Dr Glenn on this week's episode of the Connection Codes where he talks about:

  • How men are taught to suppress their feelings, and what happens when they don’t
  • Why naming emotions like shame, fear, and hurt was the key to healing
  • The moment he realized he wasn’t broken-he was just overwhelmed
  • How emotional tools have changed how he shows up in dating and relationships
  • And what it means to be a man of strength and deep feeling

This is one of those episodes that will reach right into your soul.
If you’re walking through rejection or identity questions—or you’re trying to love someone who is—this episode is for you.

What is hospitality?

Now I’m Southern, so I know hospitality. I was raised in it. I live for it.

But Jonathan’s family? They take it to another level.

On day 6.5 of our trip, I got food poisoning. Bad. By day 3 of being sick, Jonathan’s mom had scheduled me a doctor’s appointment with a gastroenterologist.

Jonathan and his dad picked me up to take me. When I walked into the office, his mom and aunt were already there. All four of them sat with me in the waiting room while I tried to describe-yep, in detail-what was happening in my body.

The whole family took me to the doctor.

And it hit me: Hospitality is just a fancy word for identity-giving.
They weren’t just being polite.
They saw me. They cared for me.
And in doing so, they reminded me that I mattered-even at my most physically miserable.

It was one of the most generous, humbling moments I’ve ever experienced.

Connection Coders have the opportunity to be the most hospitable people on the planet because we know how to see people. So much joy in being in this group.

What About You?

Maybe you’re not sick on a bathroom floor in Mexico. (But if you are going to be sick... truthfully, Mexico isn't a bad spot to do it 😂)
But maybe you’ve been carrying something heavy lately.
Maybe you’ve been trying to hold it all together- alone.

Let this be your reminder:

You were never meant to go through life disconnected.
You don’t have to wait for someone else to show up.
You can be the one who starts the conversation.
You can be the one who brings the tool.
You can be the one who says, “Here’s what’s happening for me.”

And when you do?
That’s where the healing begins.

Let's do this.

Ps. Certified Coaching Enrollment is Open!

Our Fall cohort is officially open for applications!
If Jonathan’s story stirs something in you—if you want to be the one who helps others find language and healing—this is your chance.

Your Connection Guide This Week in the Connection Codes Hi Reader, This interview made me want to reach through my computer screen and hug two people. Zephan and Sarah McMinn shared their Connection Codes journey on the podcast - nearly 20 years of marriage, four kids, and a relationship that looked good from the outside but was slowly suffocating from the inside. Their story hit me because it's so honest about what happens when we try to love each other without the tools to actually connect....

Your Connection Guide This Week in the Connection Codes Hi Reader, Wes used to say he wasn’t emotional. Not in an avoidant way- he genuinely didn’t think emotions played a role in how he showed up. But underneath? He was drowning in shame, fear, and loneliness. Six years ago, he was burned out from being an entrepreneur, exhausted from hustle culture, and unsure of what came next. Now? He’s chasing joy.Like- real, soul-filling, fully alive kind of joy. In this week’s podcast episode, Wes and I...

Your Connection Guide This Week in the Connection Codes Hi Reader, I know. It’s been a minute. Four weeks since I’ve sent a newsletter—and I’ve missed you. Honestly? I’ve had a little writer’s block. Not because I didn’t have anything to say (ohhh, there’s so much), but because I didn’t know how to jump back in. How do you sum up a summer like this? But here’s what I’ve learned: you don’t have to say everything perfectly. You just have to show up. So… hi. I’m here. And I want to catch you up...
