Reader,
For so many of us, sex has been shaped by messages we didn’t even realize we absorbed. I know for me, early in my marriage, sex was difficult—not because I didn’t love Wes, but because of the messages I had received about desire.
Growing up in the church, I was taught that wanting sex as a single person was sinful. That messaging really messed with me because when I got married, I struggled to embrace my own desire because I had spent years being told it was something to suppress.
And I know I’m not alone in that.
This week on the podcast, Bridgett Blood joins Phyllis for a powerful conversation about sexual joy and sexual loneliness—what they actually mean and why we struggle to talk about them.
Bridgett explains how these feelings show up whether you’re single or married, why so many of us have been taught to fear our own sexual energy, and how embracing it can lead to deeper connection and self-acceptance.
She shares her own experiences (including a really funny one about a Twister game 🤭), challenges outdated beliefs, and talks about why desire isn’t just about sex—it’s about play, delight, and knowing your own worth.
If you’ve ever felt disconnected from your body or unsure how to talk about what you actually need, this episode is a must-listen.

💡 Here’s something to reflect on:
What messages did you receive about desire growing up, and how have they shaped your experience with sex and connection?
This is a conversation we need to have. Because sex isn’t just physical—it’s emotional, relational, and deeply personal. And when we start talking about it openly? That’s when healing begins. ❤️
